Hi Neetu,
The process of tying a cloth around the abdomen after delivery, is called postpartum tummy binding. Most women claim that it is effective, although there is no conclusive evidence for this.
Some of the risks associated with this practice are:
- Binding your belly too tightly can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful.
- It can feel itchy or lead to rashes where the skin stays moist with sweat.
- Binding your belly too tightly can put pressure on your uterus, causing excessive bleeding.
- If you have had a c-section, it can cause complications for wound healing.
Due to these possible risks, it is best to get the doctor’s approval before trying this method.
If you choose to follow postpartum tummy binding, make sure the cloth is not too tight. The cloth should offer support and ensure that it does not squeeze the abdomen area.
